baccarat rules

Baccarat was a very popular game under the serious gamblers, but now with online casino's many regular casino players likes to play Baccarat. The rules of Baccarat are not difficult to learn, so you can start playing the game in a few minutes.

The goal of Baccarat is to bet if the player's hand wins or the hand of the dealer. You can also bet on a tie.

Value of the cards

The value of the cards is decided by the sum of the individual cards. Face cards and '10' are counted as '0' and the rest of the cards as the value on the card. The Ace is '1' point.

The purpose of the game is to reach less than 9 points but to get the closest to the 9 points. If you pass the 9 points there will be a deduction of 10 points.

For example. If you get a '2' and a '3' the total value is '5'. If you get a '6' and '7' the total value is '13' and '10' points will be deducted so the result will be '3'. Basically you have to remove the first number to get the end result.

If you get '4' and '6' your total score is '10'. This will result in '0', because 10 minus 10 is 0. This is called Baccarat, like the name of the game. The funny thing is that the worst hand (10) has the name of the game.

The highest score you can get is '9' (4 and 5, 10 and 9, Ace and 8 combinations).

Explanation game

The game start with placing a bet on the Bank, Player or Tie. Bets placed on bank or Player have a pay-out of 1-to-1, with a deduction of a commission of 5% for the casino. The pay-out is actually 0,95-to-1. In some casinos they charge a lower commission. When you place a bet on a Tie you will receive back the bet.

Both Dealer and Player receive two cards faced down. First the Players gets a card followed by a card for the Dealer. Both cards are turned to see the result of the two cards together. If both Dealer and Player have '8' or '9' points than they don't receive more cards. If they have lower points the game will be continued as follow:

- When the player has a total between 0 and 5, the player will get a new card. When the player has a total of 6 or 7 he has to fold.

The game play of the Bank is depending of the hand of the bank or if the player gets a card or not or which card the player receives.
- If the player don't receive a card anymore, the bank will get a card when he has a total between 0 and 5 and he has to fold with a total of 6 or 7.
- If the player received a 2 or 3, the bank will get a card when he has a total between 0 and 4 and he has to fold with a total between 5 and 7.
- If the player received a 4 or 5, the bank will get a card when he has a total between 0 and 5 and he has to fold with a total of 6 or 7.
- If the player received a 6 or 7, the bank will get a card when he has a total between 0 and 6 and he has to fold with a total of 7.
- If the player received a 8, the bank will get a card when he has a total between 0 and 2 and he has to fold with a total between 3 and 7.
- If the player received an Ace, 8, 10 or face card, the bank will get a card when he has a total between 0 and 3 and he has to fold with a total between 4 and 7.

The cards are dealt according to the above situations. The above rules looks very complicated, but this will be done automatically in an online casino or by the dealer in a land based casino. But off-course it's good to know these rules to understand the moves.
