casino nun She lied and took 850.000 dollars from her employer by sending him fake invoices. This way, she could pay for her gamble addiction. Reuter reported on Tuesday that a New York court condemned nun Marie Thornton 2.000 hrs. community service.

In 1999-2009, the adjunct Fin. Director of the Iona College in New Jersey stole a part of the school budget, created fake invoices & faked the signature of her superior. According to her lawyer, Thornton had a gamble addiction but she already joined a rehabilitation-programme. She was still suffering from her bad youth, a problem of which he could not publish more details. Gambling gave her freedom and she felt noticed.

After they discovered her fraud, she disappeared for months in the monastery. She felt extremely isolated, in pain & ashamed. "Due to all the sufferring, I am so much stronger now and also a better & grateful person.

According to the court, nun Thornton will not go to jail. She is already punished enough by the community service & the obligation to pay a major part of the stolen amount.
